If you are in the process or have recently filed for bankruptcy, beware of scammers. According to the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA), the scammers will use the personal information from filings and pose as an attorney and request that you wire them money to satisfy a debt. NACBA issued a warning that \u201cUnder no circumstances would a bankruptcy attorney or staff member telephone a client and ask for a wire transfer immediately to satisfy a debt nor would the bankruptcy attorney and staff ever threaten arrest if a debt isn\u2019t paid.\u201d This scam has been reported, so far, in 2 states: Virginia and New Hampshire.<\/p>\n

Scammers Continue to Target Bankruptcy Filers<\/strong><\/p>\n

The NACBA is urging their member attorneys to remain in communication with present and past clients regarding bankruptcy scams.<\/p>\n

The NACBA has issued warnings over the past few weeks and been in contact with the courts and media regarding this scam. However, despite these warnings, incidents continue to be reported and it is likely this fraudulent activity will spread to other states.<\/p>\n
